Bright and cheerful, standard, southwest dishes are given a Mediteranean touch.
(menus 11 – 25 Euros)
Le 8, 8 rue la
Clarté tel 0553351515
Best reputation in town, a very resourceful cuisine. It is fine, elegant,
intelligent, fresh and tasty! Salad du Périgord au boudin roti, croustillant
canard aux cépes. Small and lively dining room. Menus for 25 to 65 Euros. Though
informal in décor, it was the most expensive (and best) restaurant I ate in. The
carte is not cheap (menus range from 25 to 60 Euros), but the stuffed quail were
tender and tasty, the crème brûlée exemplary.
Hercule Poireau, 2
rue de la Nation tel 0553089076
Old fashioned, ancient stone building across from the cathedral very beautiful
inside and out. but certainly worth a booking in its vaulted cellar for its
owner/patron, intelligent and charming, tables amply spaced, menu both
traditional and modern but not stupidly trendy. Rossini de Cannard and other
treats: 25-54 Euros.
Le Roi Bleu, 2 Rue

Euros
La Ferme Saint Louis,
Place Saint Louis tel 05.53.53.82.77
Too new to be in the guides, this modestly elegant, exemplary little bistro is
just on the edge of the enclosed market. It offers a single 25 Euros menu with
three or four choices for three courses. Perfect duck confit with lentils. A
sensibly run kitchen with a short but varied menu.
