located for exploring the Latin Quarter and the Ile de la Cite. Small hotel of

The rooms are more simply done with bamboo or wood furniture.

The Hotel Henri IV an amazing hotel. The rooms are exceptionally cheap (one of
the three cheapest I know) and its location, on the Place Dauphine on the Ile de
la Cite, is ideal.
An old house dating 400 years, small obsolete but charming. The family goes out
of its way to make you feel at home. The hotel provides 22 cool old rooms, none
of which have toilets, but some of which are equipped with showers. The ceilings
go way up, rooms on the front have huge balconied windows that look down on the
Place Dauphine, and the furniture is simple (a few retro pieces), resting on
gorgeous hardwood floors. No credit cards, free breakfast. Reservation in
advance strongly advised. Doubles for 20 with lavabo and 43 with
shower.
Hotel de la Vallee,

sex shops area! Difficult to find cheaper in the area. Rooms with
shower only 34 , shower and WC 45 Euros . Breakfast Euros. If you want
quiet rooms ask for the ones on the courtyard, or at the higher floors. Rooms

Ultra-cheap sleeping in the heart of the Marais. The charming 28-room hotel,
situated at the base of the Marche St. Catherine. Built in the 19th Century, the
hotel retains some of the old Marais style in its lovely wood-beamed lobby, but
the rest of the hotel is thoroughly modern and fresh. Good base from which to
explore the Marais. Charmingly cramped bathrooms and modestly furnished 'suites'
add to its character New wallpapers, carpets, fixtures and furniture fill the
clean rooms, all of which are equipped with telephones. (The hotel almost
reached the two-star status, but was held back as it isn't equipped with an
elevator.) Rooms on the Marche St. Catherine are some of the most romantic I
have seen in Paris. Prices around the 45 Euros-50 Euros

Small but tall, situated across the street from the Hotel de Ville in the center
of the Marais, it calls itself 'grand' but something of an overstatement as this
modest hotel is in the aptly named street of naughty boys. Small rooms, but
those on the 5th and 6th floors have been renovated. All the renovated with
telephone, TV, and windows to the street. The prices are low because the hotel
doesn't have an elevator. This small fact (it may not seem so trivial when
you're lugging your bags up six flights of stairs) keeps the rates down and
keeps the cheapos coming. its seven floors provide only 28 rooms. The seventh
floor rewards the climbers with romantic sloped ceilings and amazing views out
to the Hotel de Ville and central Paris. Book well in advance, as the rooms go
fast. Prices 35 Eur for a single, 40 for a double and 75 Euros for a
triple.

Despite it is a budget hotel , the Castex is perfectly
charming, well-situated south of rue St-Antoine in the Marais, and a perfect
two-star bargain. Renovated a few years ago, the hotel offers clean rooms with
brand new private bath (spotless). It's too bad that they had to go and put in
drop ceilings in the rooms (and Im not crazy about the light-bar above the
bed), but come on, this place is a steal. No TV in the rooms but all have phone.
Single costs 40-47 Euros, double 52-60 Euros and a triple 66-75 Euros.

Very inexpensive place, not a palace of course, but simple and clean. My friend
David Gascon recommends it for people who want it really cheap. Let's say, being
optimistic, it is of a modest comfort. The Central is a paradise for the big cheapies out
there. The funky little hotel offers 16 simple rooms, all of which come equipped with shower, and none of which has a private toilet. (toilets are shared by each floor) Rooms on the street run a bit more, but offer picturesque views toward the Pantheon and of the cafι scene on the square below.

Hidden in a small street, a few steps from Place Dauphine, this hotel fools a
lot of people. It is inexpensive, full of atmosphere, charming, especially the
flourished patio. No reservations, so you can get a room on the day. You enter a
different world in the Hτtel de Nesle's reception, where the ceiling is covered
with hanging dried flowers and the walls with copper utensils. Mostly
Anglo-Saxon clientele. It used to be quite hippy, but now the spotless
hotel is more hip than hippy. The beds are small, so you'll have to cuddle up.
There are no mod cons - no lift, television, phone or breakfast, and half the
rooms share a bathroom with one other room. Each of the 26 rooms has a
different, but equally quirky wall mural depicting a scene in Paris history. No
credit cards, no breakfast. Count a double for 45-50 Euros.

with various food shops: cheese and wine shops, meat market, vegetable markets,
cafes, a bread shop on one corner which serves breakfast as well. The Eiffel Tower is about a 10 minute walk away. They fight for a room on
the street side ! Some rooms have TV , hair dryer, and a safe. Entirely
renovated.
