I cannot say there are a lot of good and tasty places in Cabourg. Beware of the tourist traps. But I can single out a few.
Le Balbec, promenade Marcel Proust tel 0231910179
The Grand Hotel being refurbished in 1994, the place is open for amateurs of fresh and safe maritime cuisine. Ancient favorite place of Marcel Proust. Sardines martinées à l'huile d'olive, filet de turbot à l'oseille, filet de sandre au champagne, plateau de fruits de mer; agneau au basilic. Menus
36.50-39
€. Carte:
53.50
€.
Le Beau site, 30 avenue Foch tel 0231244288.
The location is grandiose with acceptable menu prices. A real fish and seafood restaurant: crabe farci, petits encornets à la Normande, homard du vivier, saumon grille à la moutarde, feuilleté de moules et coques à l'estragon, cabillau de salé-fumé. Menus
23.50 et 33
€.
Le Bougnat, 29 rue Gascon Manneville tel 0231910613. In Dives les bains.
A retro bistro, faience on the walls, old posters and ancient benches. Looks like an old Paris metro station. But it has a lot of character. Worth the look only! The new chef, (the old one went on retreat), Teissoniere, kept the tradition of bistro cuisine with persillade de tete de porc, andouillette simplement grillée, cote de veau rotie sauce normande, marmite de poisson. Carte from
15 to 29 €.
Kerry's,
a lovely little tea shop, recommended by Mr. Tim Edwards, run by an English lady
with a couple of foreign students. It makes for delightful conversation, the food and
tea selection is excellent and Kerry is a great source of information for local attractions and directions. English speaking as well
is very useful.
