Antwerp
is also a fine place to drink. There
are loads of bars in the city center, notably those on Groenplaats, whose
terraces make a nice place to watch the world go by. More specifically, Den
Engel, on the northwest corner of the Grote Markt, is an agreeable
place, as is Den Billekletser, across Grote Markt at Hoogstraat 22. Just
south, you could try De Volle Maan,
Oude Koornmarkt 7, or the more staid De
Cluyse, across the street at Oude Koornmarkt 26, in an atmospheric
thirteenth-century cellar. Failing that, there's the wild and wonderful
Café Pelikaan, on the north side of the cathedral. The
hippest bar in Antwerp is De Muze
at Melkmarkt 15, with a young and trendy crowd and frequent live jazz.
For beer specialties, visit
Bierland,
a little way down Korte Nieuwestraat on the right, or the long-established Kulminator
which
claims to stock 519 Belgian beers and 250 foreign ones, five minutes' walk south
of the centre at Vleminckveld 32-34. Kulminator, Vleminckveld 32-34. the long-established which claims to stock 519 Belgian beers and 250 foreign ones, five minutes' walk south of the centre De
