Antwerp is also a fine place to drink. There are loads of bars in the city center, notably those on Groenplaats, whose terraces make a nice place to watch the world go by. More specifically, Den Engel, on the northwest corner of the Grote Markt, is an agreeable place, as is Den Billekletser, across Grote Markt at Hoogstraat 22. Just south, you could try De Volle Maan, Oude Koornmarkt 7, or the more staid De Cluyse, across the street at Oude Koornmarkt 26, in an atmospheric thirteenth-century cellar. Failing that, there's the wild and wonderful Café Pelikaan, on the north side of the cathedral. The hippest bar in Antwerp is De Muze at Melkmarkt 15, with a young and trendy crowd and frequent live jazz. For beer specialties, visit Bierland, a little way down Korte Nieuwestraat on the right, or the long-established Kulminator which claims to stock 519 Belgian beers and 250 foreign ones, five minutes' walk south of the centre at Vleminckveld 32-34.

A list

Hereby I give you a list of the most famous cafes in Antwerp. This list is far from complete. When you will stroll around you'll see by yourself that in Antwerp 1 house out of 4 is a cafe or a terrace!! They are practically all in the old medieval town.

Kulminator, Vleminckveld 32-34. the long-established which claims to stock 519 Belgian beers and 250 foreign ones, five minutes' walk south of the centre

De Foyer, Komedieplaats 18 located in  the old renovated Bourla theater. I like the neighborhood!

Poesjkin, Sint Nicolaasplaats 3, also vodka and blinis!

'T Elfde Gebod, Torf Brug 10.That means the 11th commandment " good eating and drinking!". Everything here is dedicated to this goal, huge beer menu and Belgian specialties.....

De Muze, Melkmarkt 15. This is a jazz café with a hypercool ambiance and atmosphere. Jazzconcert every Thursday.

De Vagant, Reynderstraat 25. More than 150 different "jenevers", a typical Holland-Flemish liquor.

De Cluyse, Oude Koornmarkt 26. The oldest arched cellar cafe in Antwerp.13th century!!! You know older??

De Pelgrim, Pelgrimstraat 15. A series of medieval cellars lighted by candles only. Avoid the weekends. The place is supercrowded with Dutch tourists.

Beveren Cafe, Vlasmarkt 12. Without any doubt, this is the address to live and feel totally the Antwerp city life. Complete harmony with native Flemish and foreign tourists. It goes wild on the tables and even in the street! That's Antwerp!
