Normandy's most precious jewel

Au Gars Normand, 8 quai des Passagers tel 0231890528. Closed Monday and mid-November to end December. A lot of fish and sea fruit for reasonable prices. Menus for 15 to 24.50 . The place is supposed to be good seen the number of locals having their napkin here. But I should say, a medium kitchen with no big invention, especially when the summer crowds invade the area. Despite that you can have very honorable  feuilleté d'escargots à l'andouille de Vire, loote braisée au jus de vin, noisette de porc sauce cidrée.

Au Petit Mareyeur, 4 rue Haute tel 0231898423
Closed Monday night and Tuesday, 15days in November and January.
My favourite address in Honfleur. Reservation in full season is imperative. Speciality of regional and sea products always prepared perfectly.  The menu-carte for 18.50
, influenced by the sea products, refined and of high quality. Skilful and imaginative cook.

Closed mid November to mid-December.
This 15th and 17th century house is beautiful, ambience convivial and the cuisine is of superior quality, especially since a new chef is at the steering wheel. This is the place if you’re looking for a culinary adventure, with its unexpected mixings of savours. But prices, which were affordable, got a very steep rise. Good menus for 27.50, 42 and 50.50

Tel .231890493
Closed Monday night and Tuesday in low season. Also closed mid-January to mid-February.
One of the better addresses in Honfleur. Menus for 17.50, 23.50 and 34.30
. Very good foie gras poele, aumoniere de poulette truffé filets de rougets paysanne, coussinets de pomme sauce paysanne, emince de canard aux airelles, panache de salade et ris d’agneau, effeuillade de poires au caramel…. The menu for 105 FF is of an incomparable ratio quality/price, because you get also the “trou Normand” and the “mignardises” with the coffee.

La Lieutenance, 12 place Sainte Catherine tel 0231890752 fax 0231890752
Next to the port and in front of the eglise Sainte Catherine, a very agreeable small terrace at the foot of an ancient gabled house, preceding a very neat dining room where they serve you beautiful plateaux de fruits de mer, grilled fish, dorade rose aux pointes d’asperges, carpaccio de saumon marine et son taboulé, tarte aux pommes normandes. Menus for 110-130 (week) and carte 43.50-55.50
.

La Chaumiere, see the hotel section for the address and phone number.
This new dependence of the Ferme Saint Simeon, two km on the road to Vasouy, is located in a historic Norman house that has been transformed to an intimate hotel-restaurant with spectacular views of the coast. It is wonderfully peaceful, surrounded by verdant gardens. Dining in the small but lively restaurant is memorable, from the tasty amusettes to the petits fours. Being close to the sea, the Prix Fixe menu usually includes delicious fish and puddings. The wine list is excellent.
A good friend mine (M.F.) who was there in 1997 said: (quote): If you want to find things to criticise we would be reduced to commenting on the English translations on the menu/carte. But even there an element of amusement was offered by "Furred game stew of lobster" as the translation of "Civet de Homard". (There were a number of other instances like this but we did not dare comment). The prices at La Chaumière are quite high but we never felt that they were undeserved”( Unquote).
But other items are on the menu like: crème mousseuse aux langoustines, magret a l’aigre-doux et miel épicé, savourous homard cuit “ à la seringue” (melted butter is injected)nougat glacé aux abricots. Prices are of course in consequence: Menus 30-60.50
. Carte:46-70 .
