The stars in the display
window of the boutique “Arouze Chimie” are big, fat rats, scaring but
be reassured, stuffed. They hang in a row, showing their horrid face to the
innocent by passer, certainly not expecting this view. Others, eating their
hamburger come to admire the “Brown
rats”(surmulots), like a technical slip explains, “gaspards un rien
mahousses” like they said in the old Halles, since these are” sewer rats,
captured in the Baltard Halles” around 1925. This shop precisely, opened fifty
years before to sell products to fight these disgusting animals.
They hang, since 1872, the Arouze house proposes spring traps, perfected
bow-nets that they make themselves. They have also everything to destroy
cockroaches and other not tasty insects. But we must admit that the boutique
shows that you can mix humour and efficacy, cardinal qualities that we lack to
often in our modern world.
