Book a Paris hotel on line

Let's continue to discover unknown, secret houses with terrible stories in the Marais section, always in the series "Naughty Paris" in collaboration with Arthur Gillette . The hotel de Sens has been expilicitely reviewed in the Marais section of my web site. But another hotel particulier is certainly worth a look, even if iy was only to see the place where some anecdotes took place.

Hotel d'Aubrey

The HOTEL D'AUBREY, located 12 rue Charles V. The son of the builder of this house, the marquis de Brinvilliers, made a terrible and lethal mistake, by marrying Marie Madeleine d'Aubrey. She was quite a women, depraved and raped when she was seven by her brothers. This incestuous habits were quite a habit in those dark ages. At a certain moment she took a certain Chevalier Godin de Sainte Croix as her (main) lover. The affair became too public and he landed in the Bastille for a few months , where an inmate taught him different ways to manufacture violent poisons. The greedy and libidinous marquise de Brinvilliers, decided that waiting for her inheritance would take too much time and started to use the science of poison her lover taught her, to eliminate who ever stood in the way of her succession. Toad venom, arsenic, and vitriol seemed a good mix, although it took her ten tries to kill her father. Next in line of her victims: her brothers, who she did all in. But now the husband came in next line and that's where she faltered, since her lover Godin, administered her husband an antidote. We can't blame him!! Who would be so foolish to become the husband of such a monster!

Torture Brinvilliers

Justice finally caught up with her: dressed only in a night shirt, she was executed and her body burned in public, ashes thrown into the wind. This was the end of one of France's greatest serial killers of the middle ages. The tradition

says that the Brinvilliers concocted her "heritage powders" in a building on the corner of rue Saint Paul and rue des Loins de Saint Paul.
Quite a story, but no legend, 100 % historically true!
Arthur takes us now along the rue Charles V, passing rue Bautreillis, and up now rue du Musc to the HOTEL DE MAYENNE. Rue Sainte Antoine , built in the 16th , transformed in the 17th and 19tH. The anecdote about this house is the death of "QUELUS", of the mignon "cuties" of king Henri III, after a nasty duel where he got 18 sword stabs!!The day of his boyfriend"'s funeral, the king laid the first stone of the Pont Neuf bridge, which he dressed in black and weeping. This caused Parisians to nickname the span "Bridge of tears".
