Where eating a good ice-cream? Veneziana, Geldmunt 6 This place has the unanimity of all Ghent residents. Here are the best ice creams of Ghent (near the Gravensteen). Without counting the waffles, pancakes and other sweeties! Where to have a drink I could
write an encyclopedic volume about the cafes in Ghent. Bruin cafes, kroegen,
caves, estaminets, rock-cafes, beer or juniper temples, the subject will never
come to an end. Around St.Baafskerk and the Belfry ‘T
Vosken, Sint Baafsplein 19. NTG
Foyer,
Sint-Baafsplein 17 Korenmarkt
and Klein Turkije Damberd,
Korenmarkt 17 Forum, Kubick (karaoke, Wednesdays and Sundays at 8.00 PM.) Maeght Van Ghent (dance on weekends) an a few others on the same street. Klein Turkije is the area on the left flank of the Sint-Nicolas church and leading to the Korenmarkt. Several “music-cafes” here. Icarus
(house music), De
Platte Beurs (neo gothic bistro, mixed
clientele) Around
the Groentenmarkt (Vegetable market) ‘T Galgenhuisje. At the extremity of the “Great Butchery” (Groot Vleeshuis), the smallest estaminet of Ghent (more historic than this one and you die!). Small room, small terrace, small cellar-restaurant (hyper touristy!!) and vestige of an ancient pillory where the bad debtors were attached or “woman of ill reputed life style”. The wastes of the vegetable market were used to bombard them in all tranquility! |
