There is no gastronomic surprise in
St.Tropez. I can only advise you the ones I think are the best possible to not
have a deception and not too expensive.
Try
La
Fregate,
rue Allard.tel 0494970708. Closed Monday out of season.
Nothing complicated here as cuisine. Marina décor and honest cuisine. Menu for
17.50 and 24.50 €. Prefer a la carte: more expensive but safer! (And don’t
do as Rod Stewart did! He left without paying his bill J! (source: Guide Routard)
Cote
Jardin, 1 rue des Tisserands. For
a quick lunch or dinner. Don’t forget this is St.Tropez, and don’t expect
too much. Correct menu- carte for 24 € in a showy décor.
Le
Bistrot du Phare, on the port. Tel 0494974600. Closes Nov 11 to Dec 15.
A pizza place but with menus for 12.50 to 19 €.
L’Auberge
des Maures, rue du Docteur Bouttin tel 0494970150 .
Closed November to April, except end of the year celebrations.
Bouillabaisse, aioli, grilles fish, sardines grillées au thym are a few of what
this place has to offer. Agreeable patio protecting you from the extreme heats
of the summer, a genuine Provencal cuisine in the heart of Saint-Tropez. From 21
to 27 €.
Tapas
5 mn, 10 rue de la Citadelle tel 0194975357.
Closed for lunch from Monday to Thursday.
For amateurs of Spanish food. Sympathetic, coloured, with a lot of tapas. 3
tapas, a good drink and other Spanish specialties you spend 9 to 19 €.
Chez
Fuchs, 7 rue des Commercants tel 0494970125.
Near the port. Closed for lunch in season, Tuesday off-season and
November.
A small dining room, impeccably clean, where Mme Fuchs serves her clients
excellent encornets a la Provencale, petits farcis, pates au pistou, sardines
farcies. Local wines. Come here
just to feel like a villager, but try to do it off-season. And even high season
you will have dined in an authentic local cadre that stayed authentic. And you
will pay your 33-54.50 €.
Le
Café des Arts, place des Lices tel 0494970225
Don’t die being an idiot, and go at least
once at this typical Saint-Tropez snobbish place which is in fact the den of the
Tropezian fauna: old zinc, patina walls, worn out faience, a percolator dating
from prehistoric periods.. Have the plat du jour and watch around you. What a
bizarre people…..provencal. You bill will not be over 35.50 €.
Le
Relais des Caves du Roy, hotel Byblos, avenue Foch tel 0494566820.
Always
open.
In the same spirit as the Café des arts
but in the super chic hotel Byblos, landmark of the Tropez night-life. If you
want to know if you are fit and ready top participate at the " Tropezian
nights", go and have a good look and fun at the spectacle “pre-night
madness” and the top of snobbism in Saint-Trop. it’s worth the 30 to 34 € a la carte you will spend for some Italian or Provencal specialties.”!!
Le
Caprice des Dieux, rue du Portail-Neuf tel 0494977678.
Closed
Tuesday off-season.
Refined and on a higher level as the others, this small place will treat you
with rougets grille sur barigoule de fenouil, terrine de la peche, pintadeau ŕ
l’esrtagon, brochette de figues et millefeuille de gaufre, glace cannelle.
Count 39 to 42 €.
