A few out of the best. This is a fishers city, so take fish and seafood.

Le Chalut, 8 rue de la Corne de Cerf tel 0299567158 (intra muros)
Near the ramparts, the decor was a little worn out but the staff was very friendly. Some locals assured me that this was the best fish restaurant of Saint Malo. A maritime cuisine it was indeed. And the products impeccable and fresh, intelligent cooking. Menus for 16,80 €-34.5 €, where I found some very good quality/price ratios. Coquilles Saint Jacques au celeri et à la truffe, saint Pierre braise au gingembre, choux farcis de tourteau aux oignons roses, goujonettes de sole au bouillon de legumes, soufflé glace à la prune d'été. A regal.

Duchesse Anne, Place Guy La Chambre, tel 0299408533
A pleasant house nestled in the ramparts, a real and beautiful decor1925 and a very friendly cuisine, without great risk. Gratin de langoustines à l'estragon, morue fumée à la truffe, noix de Saint Jacques au beurre blanc, ris de veau à l'armagnac and its famous turbot Florentine. We took the advise from Gault/Millau and took the profiterolles au chocolat as dessert. Excellent products, friendly service and classic wine cellar. Carte: 35-95 €

Borgnefesse, 10 rue du Puits aux Brayes tel 0299400505 (intra muros)
A 17th century auberge, which specialized in the products of the sea, you can degust in a warm and convivial ambience. Take the soupe aux poisons, saumon fume en galette, boudin de la mer au beurre citronné or the ragout de seiches. Less refined but good. Menus for 24.50-27.50 €. Carte from 15.50-31 €.

La Grassinais, 12 rue de la Grassinais tel 0299816090
A seducing manor with a lot of woodwork, enhanced by a pretty interior courtyard, makes the happiness of the Malouins, who know the good addresses. Homard grille à l'estragon, very well cooked with excellent black tagliatelles, langoustines marinées et caviar d'huitres, saint Pierre et bigorneaux, grand dessert Caroline. Menus for 17.50-31 €. Carte: 35 €.

Delaunay, 6 rue Sainte Barbe, tel 0299409246
The décor used to be as engaging as you IRS declaration before taxes. But it has been redoneJ. They even added a small terrace on the street. Here, cuisine is considered as a serious matter, sober, as it should. Everything is picked out to quality, as well the wines (Loire) as the bread. Foie gras from the region, croustillant de queues de langoustines aux coquillages, filet de barbue à la cardamome, huitres creuses de Cancale, granité de cidre au pommeau, cannette rotie à la sauce de gingembre. Menus: 210 € and 37 €. Carte: 32-46.50 €.

Le Clos du Chanoine, La Mettrie au Chanoine, tel 0299828457
In a perfect green surrounding, this 17th century bourgeois house cooks good products with a touch of originality, all this served with an efficacious and friendly service. Gateau au crabe et à la langoustine, terrine ménagère de bulots et de lisettes (small mackerels), roti de lotte and artichauts à l'andouile de Vire, pigeon fermier grille à la crapaudine, crepes dentelles croquantes aux pommes. This Ali Baba cavern cost you in menu from 21 to 46.50 €. A la carte:25-65 €.

A few cheaper places for the backpackers or the penniless:
Some crèperies like:
La Brigantine, 13 rue Dinan (intra muros)
Chez Gaby, 2 rue Dinan the smallest in town and probably the best pancakes of the street.

Le Franklin, 4 chaussée Sillon tel 0299405093
Nice view on the fort, between a brasserie and restaurant, the cuisine is well done, but simple: gaspacho, harnegs pommes à l'huile, lotte (average). Menus for15.50-18.50 €
La Frégate, 6 Grand rue tel 0299408770
Very often crowded, because it is also a hotel. You must be lucky wit the cuisine.
