In the same galerie Passy plaza, 53 rue de Passy, you stumble upon a very strange shop. Is it a shop? A museum? The one, stepping inside loses track for a moment. MER ET ESPACE is a very nice combination of both. This chain (already two other shops in France: Bordeaux and Bassin d'Arcachon) is specialized in boats and airplanes in the broadest sense of the word. Traditional boatmen clothing with brands like Saint-James and Royal Mer are plenty, completed with splendid interior accessories, miniature planes, drawings and other knick knacks. The Briton sail shirts are very funny. Blue white striped, presented in a lighthouse package.
You can locate the staff immediately, they are all wearing the shirt. But what I found most stunning in
this shop was the constant parade, in and out, of elderly men, telling each other, pointing at old sail ship models, strong stories of their youth. They stroll leisurely through the shop, studying extensively each corner. That makes this shop so agreeable: you can stroll freely for hours. Ad to that the discreet noise of sae waves and the not at all pushy vendors, leaving you alone, consider yourself under a roof for quite some time. |
