Passy Plaza, rue de Passy 53, is a covered shopping centre like you have many in
Paris. Several
display windows, not much ambience and average shops. But there are two
commerces, towering out of the anonymity: "MER ET ESPACE", which I
will make the subject of my next article, and "COMPAGNIE DES ETOFFES"
(Fabrics Company). Both are located in the cellar.
Compagnie des Etoffes is an untidy, disorderly little shop packed with fabrics,
bedspreads, table-covers, pillows and tassels. The snoring noise of a feverously
working sawing machine awaits you as soon as you enter. No wonder, Compagnie des
Etoffes makes everything, especially curtains on command. Marie-France, the shop
owner tells us about her shop. She was difficult to make her stop talkingJ.
"Like you see, we have many kinds of fabrics. Classic,
Britton, romantic or modern: we have all kinds of motives. Twice a year we bring
our own collection on the market, but we sell also a lot of fabrics of other
manufacturers. Red and green are the most popular colours for the moment. And
most likely decorated with Chinese motives like dragons and blossoms. "We
checked the prices of the ready to buy products. It was not very cheap,
acceptable I would say. Silk pillow covers cost 600 FF, tablecloths around 400
FF and quilted bed sheets 1000 FF.

Eat en drink in Passy:
The 16th is not so famous about its modern culinary performances. But it seems
that changments are in sight! Let's forget" Bon", the latest of
Philippe Starck, 25 rue de la Pompe", beautiful but extremely inedible, and
let's concentrate to quality.
Boulangerie Paul, 61 rue de la Pompe tel
0145035560, a traditional bakery with sublime artisanal rolls and bread.
Toastissimo, 16 rue Jean Bologne, with Italian
roasted sandwiches (tuna to baked aubergine).
Lina's, 112 avenue Kleber, part of a chain but has
marvellous biologic stuffed rolls.
La Gare, 19 chausée de la Muette, 16th century
train station, turned into a modern restaurant.
Oum el Banine, 16 bis rue Dufresnoy, Moroccan
restaurant with a great dish that I advise to all amateurs: the "kefta
tagine".
