Try to avoid the very very many tourist traps in Isle sur Sorgue. These few addresses might enlighten your stay.
Restaurant Mas de Cure Bourse, carrefour de Velorgues tel 049384083
A genuine mas de campagne, far from the madding bargain hunters of the antique stalls, a sober and local decor. The cadre is very bucolic, sheep came into the courtyard! Excellent filet de rascasse au coulis de favouilles, trilogie de foie gras, poêlée de rougets et ratatouille au basilic, tournedos de canard foie frais. Menus and carte from
28.50 € up.
Le Pescador, le Partage des Eaux tel 0490380969
Not especially my cup of tea but it is inexpensive. I'm not sure it still exists but I was here in 1994.
It had a seducing terrace along the river that was splendid. Cuisine is kept simple, maybe too simple. We had lunch menus for
12.50
€.
La Prevoté, 4 rue J.J. Rousseau tel 0490385729
Old stone house along the back wall of the church, with a ravishing flowered courtyard, beams and flower wallpaper. Daurade royale aux tomates, crème brulée d'oursins à la truffe, caille farcie aux brocolis et truffe perfectly cooked and perfumed, ragoût de coquilles Saint-Jacques aux langues d'oursins, crêpes aux griottes. Menus for
23 to 28
€. Carte 24-53.50
€.
Le Carré d'Herbes, 13 avenue des Quatre Otages tel 0490386295
Immense voliere where it is better to have a grand appetite. You will sit in a magnificent garden and eat a cuisine de bistro: parmentier de foies de volaille, moules mariniere, daube de joue de bœuf, cocotte de saumon aux lentilles. Carte-menu changing regularly for
22
€.
Le Vivier de le Sorgue, 800 cours Fernande Peyre tel 0490385280
Recommended by three different people having all used the Gault/Millau to try out the place. Mr.J.Barnaby from Montreal and the couple F.Simmons from Tallahassee, Fla.
To recommend since it is far from the noise of the antiques markets. Nice terrace but a terribly ugly dining room! Colours and décor are insulting each other. Therefore it is much better to sit on the terrace near the water for a very convenient, vivid, Provencal and modest cuisine: pressée de legumes et foie gras a la gelée de thym, sole pôchée aux cépes, copious brouillade à la truffe, feuillantine au chocolat sur crème anglaise. Menus from15.50
€ to 32.50 €.
