Paris-16th arr-Bois de Boulogne (Part 2)

After a bit of rowing on the Lac Majeur or Inferieur, you can rest in the free entrance PRE CATALAN, a small park inside the park. The restaurant located here is known as one of the best but also one of the most expensive in Paris. The name of the park has a poetic sound. According to an old legend a troubadour returning from Spain was murdered here. On the spot where this happened a cross decorates the place. In fact it’s a botanicus Pierre Belon who was robbed and murdered here.
An idea of a walk to do with children or as lovers. From the Pré Catalan to the PARC DE BAGATELLE is not far. Here, you disconnect completely! ... Park of 24 ha who entered history in the 18th as a place of pleasures and gallant rendezvous. You need a lot of gardeners to keep this place well cared off. It’s a fairy tale beauty, all this lanes surrounded by flowers, mostly roses. The chateau  was constructed by the Comte d'Artois, who bet Marie-Antoinette he could build a house in three months. The chateau was built in 1777, at great costs, hence the ironic name "Bagatelle". The chateau is like you would return in the rococo period. Flowers develop their magnificence in all glory. You must see also the garden of irises, tulips, narcissus, crocus, rhododendrons, lathyrus and especially roses in all possible colours and odours,  about 8000 rose plants who bloom in June, a  walled iris garden blooms in May.  The garden of Bagatelle is the most beautiful from half June to half July and half September to half August.
In the JARDIN DE SHAKESPEARE you can discover all plants and trees that played a part in. You can leave your children playing under supervision in the park while you assist at one of the plays.  Shakespeare’s dramas and they are preformed in a small theatre. At the south side of the forest are the two famous horse tracks: HIPPODROME D’AUTEUIL and LONGCHAMPS where horses are regularly running the “tierce”. Horse races used to be a sport for the citizens of the suburbs but today the spectators are mainly “pied noirs”, North African white immigrants of French origin. During the races there is still the same excitement as fifty years ago. Another sports arena is nearby. The STADE ROLAND GARROS where every year one of the tournaments of the great chelem is played in tennis, “Les Internationaux de France”. Extremely difficult to get a ticket for that event. Look at them at the black market.
